Reincarnation Clothing began 30 years ago in Melbourne. I was a scientist and educator and was noticing how fashion was becoming increasingly fast, synthetic and throw-away. As a scientist and environmentalist it worried me. Some of the working conditions in the third world to produce this fast, disposable fashion is abhorrent, including reliance on cheap labour and in some cases dangerous chemicals. It is hurting the environment and people. I decided to do something about it: open up a shop that sourced and sold re-used, top quality designer labels with an emphasis on natural fibres. Soon it expanded to recycling handbags, jewellery, and other accessories. New clothes were also on offer.

My philosophy is “reuse, recycle and reduce”. By giving clothes a new lease of life, by recycling them or re-using them, reduces the wastage to the environment. It also gives women the opportunity to wear designer labels they previously couldn’t afford. But the philosophy wouldn’t have been complete without Vintage clothing as part of the suite of offering. Beautiful furs, broaches, scarves and some bags and accessories as far back as the 1920s are also available for lovers of vintage.
